A New Era Begins: TCIFA Coaches Earn C-License Certification Under Concacaf Coaching Convention

Something special is happening on football pitches across the Turks and Caicos Islands, and it starts on the sidelines.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) has reached another defining milestone with the issuance of Concacaf C-License coaching certificates through its FA, following its official recognition under the Concacaf Coaching Convention at the C-License level. This achievement signals a new era for football development in the islands, where passion for the game is now matched by internationally recognized coaching standards.

Football has been woven into the fabric of life in the Turks and Caicos Islands for many years. From school grounds to training sessions and national programmes, the game has thrived on energy, pride, and the commitment of coaches who give their time to guide young players. Now, through the Concacaf C-License program, those same coaches are equipped with modern tools and methodologies that elevate how the game is taught and experienced.

The program focuses on grassroots and youth development, emphasizing player-centered coaching, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the game. For the coaches who have completed the certification, it represents both recognition and transformation; an opportunity to refine their craft and expand their impact.

Earning Concacaf Convention status at the C-License level reflects TCIFA’s dedication to meeting rigorous regional standards in coaching education. Introduced in 2022, the Concacaf Coaching Convention has been a strategic target for the Association from its inception, requiring years of preparation, alignment, and sustained effort to achieve. Acceptance into the Convention is not automatic. Member associations must undergo a detailed audit process that examines their coaching framework, curriculum, instructor qualifications, and administrative systems.

For TCIFA, this meant demonstrating the ability to consistently deliver coaching education at an international standard over time, not simply in isolated instances. Courses were required to meet minimum instructional hours, incorporate both classroom and on-field components, and include practical assessments as well as ongoing mentorship within real coaching environments. In addition, the Association’s long-term strategy, course documentation, and quality assurance systems were reviewed to ensure sustainability and alignment with regional expectations. Convention status is also subject to continued monitoring, reinforcing that it is not only earned, but maintained through consistency and accountability.

This achievement places TCIFA among a small and growing group of Concacaf member associations, fewer than twenty across the entire region, and only a limited number within the Caribbean, that have met the standards required to deliver internationally recognized coaching education. For a nation of its size, this represents a significant step forward and the culmination of a process that has been years in the making.

Reflecting on this milestone, TCIFA President Sonia Fulford noted: “This moment represents a significant step forward for football in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Achieving Convention status at the C-License level is no small feat for a Member Association of our size, and it reflects our commitment to building the game on a strong and sustainable foundation.
I would like to extend sincere thanks to our Concacaf instructors, as well as our TCIFA staff and Coach Education team, whose dedication and hard work made this achievement possible.
I also warmly congratulate all of the coaches being certified today. You are now equipped with the knowledge, and carry the responsibility to help shape the future of football in our country. Your achievement is not only personal, it is a win for the entire football community.”

Across the islands, fourteen newly certified coaches are returning to their programmes with renewed purpose. Training sessions are evolving, and young players are being introduced to more structured, engaging, and supportive environments; spaces where talent can be nurtured and confidence can grow.

Sharing his perspective on the significance of the achievement, TCIFA Head of Coach Education Damien Grant added: “I am immensely proud of this milestone and what it represents for the future of football in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The achievement of Concacaf C-License certification is not simply about gaining qualifications; it is about raising the standard of how we develop our players and support our coaches. These fourteen coaches have demonstrated commitment, discipline, and a willingness to grow, and they now stand as leaders in shaping a more structured, player-centered football culture across our islands. This is a significant step forward in building a sustainable pathway for the game, where education, consistency, and passion come together to create lasting impact. We are not just developing better coaches; we are building a stronger football community for generations to come.”

At its heart, this milestone is about more than certification. It is about investing in people; coaches who shape not only athletes, but communities. Each licensed coach now carries the responsibility and opportunity to influence the future of the game, one player at a time.

Emphasizing the broader impact, TCIFA Technical Director Dane Ritchie highlighted: “The investment in coaches is critical to the development of players and the game of football in Turks and Caicos Islands. This marks a major step in the right direction for the development of football and will signal to others that this is the direction that will allow for growth of coaches, clubs and players which can have a far reaching impact on our communities.”

Being accepted as a Concacaf Coaching Convention member at the C-License level stands as a defining achievement for the Association, made possible through consistent effort and the leadership of the Technical Department. The collective contributions of TCIFA leadership, the Coach Education team, and Concacaf have been instrumental in reaching this point.

As momentum builds, TCIFA remains focused on expanding opportunities for education and growth within the sport. The future of football in the Turks and Caicos Islands is bright, with continued investment in coaches set to elevate the standard of players and strengthen the game at every level.

The game is growing. The standard is rising. And on fields across the islands, the next chapter of football is already underway.
