TCIFA Launches Talent Development Pathway to Foster Young Football Talent

The Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) launched its Talent Development Pathway Program on Friday, September 5th, 2025. The event, held at the TCIFA National Academy in Providenciales, brought together parents, guardians, and young players eager to learn more about this new initiative and the commitment it entails.

Following a familiarization of the TCI football ecosystem and Talent ID events that expanded over a 6 week period, fourteen players were selected to take part in the inauguration of the Talent Development Pathway Program. The selected participants who represent the Providenciales group received their training kits and were introduced to the program's core message: “the importance of players taking ownership of their own development journey.” The event was attended by key figures, including TCIFA President, General Secretary, Technical Director, staff and council members, along with Director of Sports Mr. Jarett Taylor, and Senior Program Officer in Health Promotion and Advocacy Unit Maiya Saunders.

The first pitch session took place at the TCIFA National Academy on Tuesday, September 9th, featuring a combination of physical testing and training. This session marked an exciting start for the participants as they embarked on their development journey.

Eilidh Mackay, FIFA Talent Coach, Lenford Singh, TCIFA Talent Development Lead in collaboration with Tyler Emmanuel TCI Sports Commission Sports Performance Coach, kicked off with implementing FIFA's methodology for athlete development within a football context, ensuring a modern and effective training approach. Coach Mackay previously shared her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m excited to work with TCIFA to help shape a player development environment that puts the individual at the heart of the journey. This program is built around the principle of player first, then team focusing on long-term development. We will be striving to connect the islands through best-with-best opportunities.”

The FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS) is a global initiative providing long-term, tailored support to FIFA Member Associations (MAs) to help them develop their national team talent and create equitable pathways to the professional game. Key components include the establishment of high-performance FIFA Talent Academies, the deployment of FIFA-trained coaches, in this case Coach Eilidh, to provide on-the-ground expertise, and the creation of structured programs for talent identification and player development. The TDS aims to reduce disparities in the global game, foster sustainable football ecosystems, and ensure that every talented boy and girl has a chance to succeed regardless of their background.

The Talent Development Pathway is designed for young individuals who not only exhibit exceptional talent but also possess the ambition and mindset essential for continuous growth and improvement. It encompasses football skills, academic competencies, and other elements to ensure a comprehensive approach to each child's development. Participants are expected to demonstrate commitment and discipline, both on and off the pitch, inspiring them to reach their full potential as athletes and individuals.
